While we knew Meghan Markle was already eyeing off an exit from the set of Suits (presumably to take up Royal life in Kensington Palace), it is now widely speculated that co-lead Patrick J. Adams will not return for Season 8 either.

Both contracts for the actors who play engaged lawyer couple Rachel Zane and Mike Ross are up after the end of season 7 (the second half of which is about to air). According to Deadline, rumours began to swirl just last month that Adams wouldn’t renew his contract after seven years on the Toronto-based series. He recently married Pretty Little Lies actress Troian Bellisaro and as his on-screen alter-ego Mike is expected to marry Rachel in the last few episodes of season seven, it would technically make sense if both characters left.

Creator of Suits Aaron Korsh told Deadline in September he recognised that after so long, the cast had other things going on in their lives. “We’ll see what happens,” he said “This is true on all long-running shows, and people have things happening in their lives. When Gina [Torres who played Jessica] left, I could not have predicted that the way her life was going. She loved being on the show, and we loved having her on the show, that’s why we’re doing the spinoff. I would never have guessed that she would want to leave early but she did, and it ended up working out. Even though she left early, look at how often we still see Jessica throughout season six and seven. I’m going to let what happens happens and hope it all works out.”

But can Harvey Spector hold airtime without his second-hand man Mike?
