Morten Tyldum’s newest film project Passengers is gaining momentum as one of the most highly anticipated films of 2016. Starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt as the titular characters, it’s the story of two people aboard the Starship Avalon travelling to a distant colony planet, who having been awakened prematurely from their hibernation pods, must live out the rest of their lives in space.

The film script has been written for years, having been included in the 2007 Hollywood blacklist for most admired scripts yet to be made. After a series of failed start ups surrounding the project (Keanu Reeves and Reese Witherspoon were both considered for the main roles in 2013), the film was finally picked up by Sony Pictures in December 2014. Pratt plays Jim Preston, a mechanic who left Earth and paid his way aboard the spaceship and Lawrence, who’s character is conveniently named Aurora, is a New York writer interested in cosmic travel.

Passengers is to be released in Australian Cinemas January 1 2017.
