Paris Hilton is refusing to give back the $2 million engagement ring ex-fiance Chris Zylka proposed to her with – because he didn’t spend a cent on it.

According to the New York Post, Zylka asked Hilton to return the 20-carat diamond ring following their recent break-up, but the hotel heiress is refusing, because the rock was given to her for free by Hilton’s friend, celebrity jeweller Michael Greene.

“The ring is hers,” a source told the Post.

However, TMZ reports Zylka got the ring at a massive discount, but he did pay something for it. According to the site, Zylka is legally entitled to the ring, but in contradiction to the Post report, claims he has not yet asked for it back.

After the pair got engaged in January this year, some wondered how The Leftovers actor could afford such an extravagant ring. He’s estimated to be worth US$4 million, which would mean the ring would have cost half of his net worth.

Which might explain why Zylka chose to declare his undying commitment to Hilton by getting an enormous tattoo of her name on his forearm.

Paris landed in Melbourne on Thursday to promote her latest fragrance, Platinum Rush – and she was not wearing the ring.
