One of the big changes we’ve seen in fashion weeks across the last few seasons is that it’s no longer just about the clothes, but the lifestyle a designer wants you to live in them. This was exactly the case at Oscar de la Renta, where Cipriani Broadway was transformed in to a whismy tropical paradise. There were palms, fruit baskets, sunset-inspired light design and makeup in warm shades of pink, orange, and copper – all inspired by Mr de la Renta’s native Dominican Republic. As for the collection itself, there was a lot of linen, embroidery, raffia and kaftan shapes. Makeup followed in a similar vein, that was, according to director Tom Chapeux for MAC Cosmetics, “less about a destination, and more about what’s yet to be explored”.

Makeup was either neutral, or bold shades of pink, blue, orange, yellow, and green stretching across eyes to the temples. It was a look made for warmer weather – think eating a Calippo ice block in the height of summer. MAC Cosmetics matte shadows were layered over Paint Sticks for long wearing, vivid colour payoff. Skin was mostly bare, with a little Soft Matte Studio Fix foundation stick buffed in before setting with powder. Because eyes were the focus, cheeks were left as is, and lips were finished with a swipe of lip conditioner.

Hair was a mixed bag of styles, from slicked buns to smooth blow dries. The opening look (as seen below) was a head of tight, bright blonde Shirley Temple curls. It was essentially a mix of everything we plan to do with our hair this summer: Tangled, salty curls, slick buns, and smooth blow dries.
