A sense of fun and freedom was on the agenda for Oroton’s presentation at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week. The brand was inspired by the world’s slow return to simple pleasures, embracing the joy that comes with experiencing the things we missed during the pandemic.

The collection was infused with an intrepid spirit, which translated to the beauty looks we saw on the runway. MECCA partnered with the heritage brand to create an easy, relaxed makeup look that championed bare skin with a natural, peachy flush.

Janelle Jerusalem, MECCA’s Lead Artist for the Oroton runway show, dreamed up a “youthful, dewy and healthy complexion with a touch of peachiness for a sun-kissed, faux-flush”. Skin was elevated rather than covered, using cream products for a naturally radiant finish.

Jerusalem described her beauty direction as being “inspired by the feeling of escapism, there is an ode to the timeless, elegant and fresh-faced youthfulness of the skin—the way the cheeks naturally flush and the dewy warmth it evokes after some time in the sun”.

The MECCA makeup team started with the Mecca Cosmetica Weekend Skin Glow Serum, which was massaged into the skin and also applied to the body and décolletage for a glistening, healthy glow. NARS’ Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser was then pressed over the complexion, but only where the skin needed to be every-so-lightly evened out.

TikTok’s favourite concealer – the Kosas Revealer Concealer, which boasts the likes of Hailey Bieber as a fan – was then enlisted to brighten the under eye area. The Mecca Max Off Duty Blush Stick was used in the shade Juicy or Sorbet to add warmth to the skin, with just a touch of peachy colour pressed into lips with the Mecca Cosmetica Tinted Lip De-Luscious in Shell.

The makeup team then patted the ILIA Balmy Tint Hydrating Lip Balm in Hold Me over the lips, before dabbing off shine to create a pouty effect. Some warm cream Smashbox Always On Cream Eye Shadow in the shade Sepia on the lids was used to enhance the eye’s natural depth.

Arches were left largely unadorned, yet groomed with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze helping to brush brows up naturally. The Mecca Max Off Duty Glass Stick was then used as a final step, dabbed over the high points of the face for dewy, sun-kissed radiance.

Hair legend John Pulitano, Hair Director for O&M and Creative Director at Sydney’s Headcase Hair, created a series of relaxed hair looks to match the uncomplicated aesthetic. The hair team worked with each model’s hair to create soft, natural texture, using the brand’s Surf Bomb Sea Salt Spray and K-Gravel Texture Clay.

According to Jerusalem, beauty’s infatuation with ‘no makeup’ makeup is set to continue – which is welcome news to many. “There will be a continuation of celebrating the skin’s natural luminosity through products that double as a hybrid skincare-meets-makeup duo – skin tints,” she said.

“Beauty looks will remain fresh, glowy and almost undone, but with a surprising element of colour – whether it be on the cheeks like a peach-toned warm flush, or a just-kissed, bitten hint of a soft, rosy plum [colour] on the lips.”
