With an album that defied generations and song that became the unofficial break up anthem of the 2021 edition of the pandemic, it’s no surprise Olivia Rodrigo cleaned up at last night’s Grammy Awards.

The 19-year-old singer, who was nominated for seven awards, arrived on the red carpet wearing a Y2K-inspired Vivienne Westwood gown, complete with a choker, cat eye makeup and opera gloves. Keeping things young and fresh, her entire beauty look was by Glossier.

At the awards, Rodrigo performed her hit song ‘drivers license,’ before taking home three wins for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance.

As is tradition, after winning her awards, Rodrigo posed for photographers holding her trophies in her hand. But while trying to juggle them in the middle of having her picture taken, the singer dropped one on the ground and the tiny golden gramophone immediately snapped in two.

Thankfully, the moment was caught on camera, mimicking the time in 2010 when Rodrigo’s friend and mentor Taylor Swift similarly struggled to hold her four trophies and also ended up dropping — and breaking — one of the gramophones.

During Rodrigo’s first acceptance speech, she described the win as her “biggest dream come true”.

“Thank you so much to the Recording Academy,” she explained, as she paid tribute to her parents, her friends and her producer Daniel Nigro, adding: “This is my biggest dream come true.

She later added, “When I was 9 years old, I told my mum I was going to be an Olympic gymnast even though I could barely do a cartwheel and she thought I was joking but I got super defensive, and so the next week, when I told her I was going to win a Grammy, she was very supportive even though I’m sure she thought it was just a little-kid pipe dream.”
