After a public battle with breast cancer in the nineties, Olivia Newton-John has revealed that the disease has returned and spread to her back.

The Australian actress and singer, most famous for her iconic role as Sandy in 1970s musical film Grease and 1980s smash-hit song Physical, has postponed performance dates in the US and Canada to seek treatment.

“Olivia Newton-John is reluctantly postponing her June U.S. and Canadian concert tour dates,” a statement posted to her Facebook page read.

“The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum.

“In addition to natural wellness therapies, Olivia will complete a short course of photon radiation therapy and is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows.”

Newton-John, 68, said she has been consulting with her team of doctors and natural therapists at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, which she founded after first battling the disease in the nineties.

The US-based star is said to be keeping a positive outlook that she’ll make a full recovery.

“She plans to be touring in August. They’re all very positive,” a source close to Olivia told People on Tuesday.

Olivia was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, and underwent a partial mastectomy, chemotherapy and breast reconstruction.

She went on to play a pivotal role in breast cancer awareness in Australia and overseas, and raised millions of dollars to fund research into cures for the disease.

Sadly, Olivia lost her sister Rona to breast cancer in 2013.

We’re wishing ONJ a speedy and full recovery.
