“These are clothes for reality and a real woman’s life,” said Victoria Beckham of her Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, unveiled at the glamorous hotspot of Cipriani on New York’s Wall Street today as part of Fashion Week.
While the reality is not every woman can afford a wardrobe full of Victoria Beckham, it’s certain many aspire to own her signature ladylike dresses and oversized blazers which came paired together this season in a celebration for the designer’s predilection for the ultra feminine, along with tailored masculinity.
There’s also no denying the label, now in its eight year, has evolved beyond her beautiful hero midi dresses to a highly desirable assortment of effortless pieces for the thoroughly modern woman. Preferably one who likes to rock the man style meets feminine look in the boardroom.

“These are clothes for a professional woman, for a woman in control with a strong point of view,” said the Australian-born global fashion director of Net-A-Porter and Porter magazine, Gabriele Hackworthy, of Beckham’s latest offering.
“She is completely contemporary but has a no-fuss attitude to dressing. You are not going to feel ridiculous wearing these clothes, you are going to feel confident.” Which was nothing if not confident, classic and with just a whisper of edge.
Trench coats, blazers and slouchy wide-leg pants in gentlemen’s club colours of navy, black, grey and burgundy were showcased alongside pretty silk and chiffon dresses and ruffled skirts and sumptuous jersey knits that are not body conscious, but conscious of the body according to brand VB.

Beyond the clothes all eyes were also on the accessories – another burgeoning category of the brand – from the super cute structured box bags (inspired by vintage vanity cases), to the thigh high leather boots, wedge booties and long leather gloves.

And in further proof that exuding power and confidence doesn’t need to spell ostentatious, the beauty looks were simple yet perfect. Flawless illuminated skin, full natural brows, pale lips and delicate muted blue and grey winged eyes were the work of Estee Lauder make up artists, while British hair master Guido Palau was responsible for the natural free-flowing locks.
FRONT ROW ACTION: All the industry heavyweights were there: Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Suzy Menkes, Tim Blanks et al. But the real star moment arrived when David Beckham and kids Harper, 5 (who sat on his lap), Cruz, 11, Romeo, 14, and Brooklyn, 17, took their seats next to Wintour.

Standout pieces: The ruffled chiffon skirts and dresses (especially in pops of raspberry), the checked blazers in bold shades and the geometric prints.
INSIDE SCOOP: Anytime is good for tea when you’re British. Especially when your show is 10am on a rainy Sunday morning.
Beauty note: The Victoria Beckham for Estee Lauder limited edition make up collection, which was an instant sell out when in launched last September, will be re-issued this month. “It’s important that this is about fashion as well,” Beckham said in a recent interview with WWD of the neutral based collection which features illuminating cream, bronzer, nude lipsticks and gold eye foil. “Every collection we do I want it to have an element of fashion.”
