In an attempt to immortalise the private life of beloved actress Lucille Ball, upcoming biopic Being the Ricardos is slated for a December release. The film has been shrouded in secrecy up until now with a new trailer unveiling the incredible transformation of Nicole Kidman. The film is directed by Aaron Sorkin with Javier Bardem set to star as Ball’s former husband, Desi Arnaz.

For those who are perhaps unacquainted with Ball, the model, actress and comedian rose to prominence in the ’50s with her namesake American sitcom, I Love Lucy. She starred alongside her partner Arnaz from 1951 to 1957 and later divorced in 1960. The film will follow just one week of production from the show where the pair face challenges that could threaten both careers and their relationship.

The official synopsis reads: “The film takes audiences into the writers’ room, onto the soundstage and behind closed doors with Ball and Arnaz during one critical production week of their groundbreaking sitcom.”

For fashion fans, the era style film is teeming with ’50s costuming. Kidman is almost unrecognisable as she dons a fiery red wig – just one of many from her career.

The couple is lived on by their daughter Lucie Arnaz, who has praised Kidman for the portrayal of her mother.

“Nicole did a spectacular job,” Lucie told The Palm Springs Life magazine in August. “The two days that I watched, though, were both little flashbacks, so she was playing Lucy in the late ’30s and mid-’40s. She wasn’t Lucy of Lucy Ricardo fame yet, so it was a trifle different. And I know she meant it to be, so it could feel different. But boy, what she did was astounding. She’s got such poise and class.”

Being the Ricardos will release into cinemas from December 10 and on to the Amazon Prime streaming platform from December 21.
