And so here we are in little old Australia about to head back into society. Is it just me or did you too expect this quarantine period to last longer? Suddenly, we’re faced with a new-age existential crisis: Have I used this pause efficiently? What have I actually achieved? What have I learnt? Have I done enough?

Nicole Kidman is one supernova who has been working on a quantifiable new skill. She’s been learning to speak Italian. Sitting in a spotty blouse by the window and with her hair in a butterfly clip, the actor looked like a character in an Elizabeth Gilbert novel. “What gives me hope right now is this Italian phrase ‘Andrà tutto bene’ which means ‘everything will be alright!’,” Kidman captioned her picture. “During this time while staying at home I have been studying Italian which has given me hope, solace and distraction. I’ve always been in love with Italy but to be able to rediscover the language right now has been such a saving grace for me.”

“Also, for anyone that wants to hear something that is so beautiful, look up the song ‘Nessun Dorma’, an aria from the Italian opera Turandot,” Kidman continued. “The video of an Italian opera singer serenading his city from his balcony has been watched by so many but it deserves to be watched by many, many more. Enjoy.”

If you’d like to learn Italian like Kidman, you can purchase Easy Italian Reader – the book she has splayed open in her picture. If you would like to extend your knowledge of the language, pick up a copy of Prego. (You can find the newest edition of the book here.)
