Sarah Burton’s affinity for nature was given a second spotlight – this time one viewed by the mainstream eye – as Nicole Kidman wore Alexander McQueen Fall 2017 ready-to-wear at the Country Music Awards in Las Vegas today.

Standing taller than her husband Keith Urban, the actress and her McQueen creation took paparazzi priority; the intricate hand-embroided tapestries of flora and fauna, owls and foxes a strong talking point second to her role in Big Little Lies.

Kidman, who is currently being celebrated for her role as abused housewife and retired lawyer, Celeste, in the thrilling television series has gained traction of late for her very real depiction of a victim of domestic abuse.

“I’ve been reading articles that people have sent me that say they are glad this has started a discussion,” Kidman recently said. “You have domestic violence counsellors who are analysing the relationship and saying how authentic it is just because he’s capable of falling into his knees and crying and apologising and saying he’s going to change. He’s a mix of control and possessiveness and shame and repentance. It’s a very dangerous and toxic relationship, but as they both like to say they love each other.”

Kidman, 49, would go home to Urban at night time with real bruises from the physicality of the abusive scenes, something the singer was “devastated” about. Today though, the praise was on Urban and his music. “I remember when he first played [his song The Fighter] for me, and I started to cry,” recalls Kidman. “He writes these things, and they come out of I don’t know where, and they are like beautiful gifts.”
