This is your daily reminder of how progressive the former U.S. President is (or is how backward the current commander-in-chief is?). Netflix have just announced Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle have inked a deal with them to produce a series of films and TV shows.

“President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have entered into a multi-year agreement to produce films and series for Netflix, potentially scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries, and feature,” the streaming giant tweeted.

While some have labelled this move as “LeftFlix”, Netflix’s chief of content officer Ted Sarandos says it’s right on brand for the Obamas. “Barack and Michelle Obama are among the world’s most respected and highly recognised public figures and are uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people who make a difference in their communities and strive to change the world for the better,” he said.

“Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others,” Michelle said. The former President cites this introduction of new content as a vehicle to promote “greater empathy and understanding between peoples”.

More to come.
