NARS Sheer Glow Foundation has been my holy grail base product for at least five years (which is equivalent to 20 in beauty editor years). It’s got just the right amount of coverage that’s believable but actually conceals, a radiant finish and comes in a bounty of shades that work on all undertones.

Despite all the contenders I’ve tried, nothing has ever measured up — but since the just-launched Light Reflecting Foundation landed in store at Mecca, I might be changing my tune. The NARS Light Reflecting Foundation is the brands newest launch, and aims to bring the best of skincare and makeup into one glow-inducing formula. As for ingredients, it contains calming oat extract, Japanese lilyturf (a plant extract thought to strengthen the skin barrier) and milk thistle for its antioxidant properties. There’s also a light-reflecting “complex” that works to reflect light away from the skin, creating an unmatched radiance.

MY REVIEW

The first noteworthy feature worth sharing is that Light Reflecting Foundation comes with a pump (cue the collective excitement from Sheer Glow fans everywhere). This is important not only to avoid spillage, but because the formula itself is quite thin/spreadable. I’ve used just about every NARS base product and this is absolutely the lightest in terms of texture – less like makeup, and more of a serum. But it makes sense, given the skincare-adjacent ingredients listing.

Application-wise, it couldn’t be easier. Because it’s a fluid, it glides on easily with either fingers, a sponge or a brush. I used my fingers and finished with a sponge (I think NARS products fare well with a little warmth from your hands), and the end result was virtually undetectable. As for the coverage, I’d say it’s sheer to medium; it yields more power than the Radiant Tinted Moisturiser but less than Sheer Glow or Radiant Longwear. But the real kicker is the GLOW. I am talking about glossed, post-facial skin that looks dewy and healthy and maybe even like you slept underwater. I am a very oily person so dusted some power across my chin and between the brows, but otherwise I cannot fault it. A light veil evened out my acne scars (I have many), softened redness and just gave me this all-round luminosity that is hard to come by in foundation products.

The wear is also great – I didn’t experience any oxidation or settling. Of course it rubbed off slightly, but with mask-wearing this is basically impossible to avoid. While I have ZERO plans to break up with Sheer Glow (it will always be my event/bad skin day foundation), Light Reflecting is truly perfect for daily wear, especially if you want just a teeny bit more oomph than a tint or CC cream can offer.
