Moxy is just as you’d expect her to be. Refined, yet playful and there always seems to be a surprise at any given glance and for locals looking for a staycation or visitors of New York City’s concrete jungle, she’s always available to provide solace. No, she’s not New York’s favourite ‘It’ girl, but she is the city’s ‘It’ hotel. Joining the offering of luxury hotels from the Marriott portfolio, Moxy Hotel, Chelsea, is the third of its kind on the island of Manhattan and maybe, just maybe, she’s the best iteration yet.

Opening in February, 2019, the 349-room Moxy Hotel reimagines the urban jungle, blending botanically-inspired design with Italian romance—the Flower District’s new secret garden. Rising 35 stories high into the New York City skyline, its celebrated location pays homage to its Flower Market location and the wider Chelsea neighbourhood. As peak hour foot-traffic rampages down much of the city, Chelsea instead, is awash with markets of flora and its scent wafts down its tree-lined streets. Upon arrival to the once-industrial area – which has since transformed into a trendy purveyor of galleries and restaurants – it is hard to miss Moxy with its facade clad with steel beams framed with floor-length windows.

The bottom floor boasts a fragrant flower shop while directly adjacent, a whiff of fresh donuts permeate from its cafe. The warm hospitality is continued through the space with a lobby bar – dubbed Bar Feroce –  and unfolds as a succession of dining and hanging spaces designed to transform seamlessly from live to work to play over the course of the day. In addition, Feroce Ristorante and Feroce Caffè embraces passerby’s and guests with a warm and inviting sense of Italian culture and combines industrialist aesthetics with warm lighting, punchy prints and seemingly authentic terrazzo floors, offering a modern twist on traditional Italian design motifs.

Towering 435 feet above the ground on Moxy Chelsea’s 35th floor, The Fleur Room adds to its social appeal as an intimate, glass-encased lounge. Providing sweeping views of the famous NYC skyline, the space brings an extra touch of glamour with lush furnishings, bold accents of copper and a grand vintage disco ball that once graced the infamous LA club Vertigo. From day to night, the room transforms from a speakeasy lounge into a trendy dance hub.

Moxy’s bedrooms however, take on a more stripped back approach, however no-less beautiful, serve careful consideration to space and functionality. Across 349 rooms, the brain child of famed design firm, Yabu Pushelberg, assembles the spaces to be cozy and adaptable, fusing the comforts of home with quirky accessories and reimagined features. Custom-designed, multipurpose furniture – including a folding desk and a chair/luggage rack – can be flattened and hung on wall pegs when not in use. This unique system allows guests to endlessly configure and personalise the room based on their needs. And like the rest of the building, gloats full-height, wall-to-wall windows and 10-foot ceilings drenching rooms with natural light.
