When Miuccia Prada teased an impending collaboration between Miu Miu and Levi’s late last year, Instagram went into overdrive. The world’s most beloved purveyors of high-end whimsy meeting the world’s most respected crafters of wear-for-life denim? It seemed too good to be true. Five months on, and we’ve finally got a proper at the fruits of their labours. As expected, our waiting with bated breath has paid off.
The campaign shots, released today, star new Miu Miu muses Emma Corrin and Lila Moss (the latter made her runway debut at Miu Miu’s spring summer ’21 show last September), photographed by Johnny Dufort and styled by the brilliant Lotta Volkova. In the images, we see the classic Levi’s 501 shape updated with delicate embellishments—crystals, gemstones, and smatterings of flowers—as well as denim jackets with reworked cotton puff sleeves. Elsewhere, denim jackets are fixed with leather panels and playful floral cut-outs.
The collaboration is part of an ongoing commitment by Miu Miu to more sustainable business practices. Each of the pieces in the Levi’s partnership are upcycled from Levi’s ’80s and ’90s archives, and then modernised with dead stock from the Miu Miu atelier. As such, each piece will be entirely bespoke—making the offering a kind of vintage-inspired take on haute couture.
Miu Miu began playing in the upcycle space last December when they unveiled a limited collection of festive party dresses made from vintage gowns and lovingly updated by Miu Miu artisans. Both collections speak to a renewed focus on ethical business practices within the fashion industry—a move many see as being a long time coming. The Miu Miu x Levi’s collaboration will be released in a limited run later this month, available in-store at Selfridges in London and IAPM in Shanghai, before becoming available for purchase at miumiu.com. We wish you the best of luck getting your hands on a pair—sell-out status beckons.
