During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week, Mindy Kaling announced some huge personal news: that she’d given birth to her second child, a baby boy, last month.
Kaling, who managed to keep her pregnancy a secret for the entire nine months – and an extra month after that – said, “I’m telling it for the first time now, it feels so strange. But I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3,” noting that her announcement is “news to a lot of people.”
Kaling, who is also mum to a 2-year-old daughter, Katherine, revealed her newborn son’s name is Spencer. Similarly, Katherine’s December 2017 birth was a bit of a surprise to fans and she’s chosen not to reveal the father’s identity publicly.
A few weeks ago, I heard a rumour via the celebrity gossip account @DeuxMoi that a famous Hollywood A-lister had been pregnant and had given birth, but the public was none the wiser. The anonymous DM shared to the account alleged that the celebrity had taken a whole lot of content prior to showing her baby bump, and was posting it throughout the whole pregnancy to throw the public off the scent.
In June, 2019, Kaling opened up about becoming a mother telling Glamour, “I always knew I wanted to be a mum, but I would have put it off and put it off. I’m happy that it happened when it did.”
“I would have put it off indefinitely. I’ve seen firsthand the heartbreak of women who have waited to get pregnant [and then it doesn’t happen]. For me, my relationship with my mother was such an integral part of my life. Thinking back on our relationship is still such a huge source of my happiness day-to-day, so I’m so grateful for having Katherine.”
Congratulations to Kaling on the second child and on fooling the world for 10 whole months, a feat that no one has pulled off quite so excellently since Kylie Jenner’s 2018 pregnancy.
