Appearing at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards this weekend, teen actor Millie Bobby Brown used her considerable platform to deliver an impassioned message of support for the youth and student-led March For Our Lives protests.
Accepting the award for Favourite TV Actress, the Stranger Things star implored those present in the room to continue championing the indomitable spirit of the March For Our Lives organisers, many of whom were galvanised into action by the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14. In tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragic attack, Brown wore a bespoke embroidered Calvin Klein Jeans double denim ensemble made all the more powerful for its subtle though nonetheless moving message. On the front, ‘Never Again’, appeared embroidered in acknowledgement of the movement’s unifying hashtag; on the reverse side, the 17 names of the victims appeared under a second declaration of support for the movement.
“The March For Our Lives demonstrations that took place all over the world today have inspired me and impacted us all in one way or another,” said Brown. “I get to be up here, and I’m privileged to have a voice that can be heard, one that I can use to hopefully make a positive difference and help influence change.”
Brown concluded her speech by dedicating her award to those 17 victims, saying “For the angels among us, your spirit lives on. This is for you.”
