NEWARK, NEW JERSEY: Miley Cyrus performed Slide Away – the break-up song she released a week after splitting from husband Liam Hemsworth – at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.
In a little black dress, Cyrus belted out the ballad in which she urges Hemsworth (it’s clearly, painfully about Liam) to “move on [because] we’re not 17” and “slide away back to the ocean.”

Look. Cyrus has every right to sing her new single on stage at the VMAs. But we should all spare a thought for Liam, who knows the world just watched his ex sing about how badly she wanted him to just “slide away … back to the ocean”.
Rumour has it Kaitlynn Carter, Miley’s undefined friend/lover/companion, was present when Cyrus performed Slide Away at the rehearsal before the show.
Are you okay, Liam?
