After 40 years in the industry that included starring roles in some of most successful films in Hollywood, Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh has taken won her first Golden Globe for her role as Evelyn Wang in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
The 60-year-old star arrived at The Beverly Hilton where the 80th Golden Globes were taking place looking regal in a midnight blue sequinned Armani Privé gown.
Detailed with silver sequins that lit up the red carpet, the strapless peplum dress rippled like water as she walked through the media throng. Yeoh let her hair hang free for the evening – a trend on the night with many actresses opting for natural-looking tresses – and cascading to one side.
A two-tiered diamond necklace and stacked diamond bracelet added extra sparkle.
Not that Yeoh needed it as the actress was practically shining from the moment she arrived.
Having received rave reviews for her complex and multifaceted role as a first generation Chinese American mother in Everything Everywhere All At Once, the win was not only well deserved it was long overdue.
Yeoh has delivered incredible performances throughout her career, going back long before her breakout Hollywood role in the Pierce Brosnan era James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies to her earliest roles in Hong Kong action films. Her acceptance speech referenced this, along with the difficulties faced as an Asian actress trying to find success in the US movie industry.
At one point during her acceptance speech, Yeoh told the show’s producers to shut up and warned that she could “beat them up” after they attempted to cut her off at the mic and play music over her.
After 40 years making movies to finally win, who can blame her?
