Spare a thought for the thankless lackeys who belong to the entourages of the world’s A-list, for tonight they know not the sweet embrace of sleep (see Kim Kardashian for context; who else?)

Tomorrow brings with it the year’s most glamorous convergence of the fashion, art, music and film worlds at the 2016 Met Gala, the annual Costume Institute extravaganza where you can expect to pay a handsome $33,000 for an individual ticket or fork out a minimum of $230,000 for a table of 10.

Those of us not destined for a life of exorbitant expenditure or attending obscenely chic parties where Taylor Swift is co-charing can instead take refuge in the following exclusive clip from The First Monday In May, filmmaker Andrew Rossi’s new documentary that follows the creation of last year’s exhibit, China: Through the Looking Glass

For an insight into the magnitude of the event – specifically the highly-scrutinised and photographed red carpet portion of the evening – watch the above for a glimpse at the Met Gala as you’ve never seen it before.

Chaos? On the red carpet? Groundbreaking.

The First Monday In May hits Australian cinemas on Thursday May 12 and it (hopefully) won’t cost you anywhere near as much as the Met’s price of admission will. Plus this way you don’t have to make small talk with Anna, and isn’t that priceless?
