Meghan Markle has begged her father Thomas on more than one occasion to stop giving unapproved interviews to the press, or sharing private details about her with the world.
Unfathomably, Mr Markle has not relented to his daughter’s wishes, instead giving dozens of media interviews. And now, he’s committed his worst sin yet.
A letter Meghan wrote to her dad in August 2018 has today been printed in British publication The Mail on Sunday, with Mr Markle allowing the paper to publish it.
This heartbreaking act of betrayal appears to be in response to anonymous interviews given by Meghan’s friends recently, who blamed Mr Markle for the pair’s estrangement.
“Daddy, it is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have chosen to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you are causing,” Meghan, wrote in August 2018, three months after she married Prince Harry.
“Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces — not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this Something I will never understand,” the note continued.
Meghan seemed particularly baffled and devastated by apparent inconsistencies on her father’s part, like telling the press he had tried to call her when he had not.
“You’ve told the press that you called me to say you weren’t coming to the wedding — that didn’t happen because you never called,” she wrote later on in the letter.
“I have only ever loved, protected, and defended you, offering whatever financial support I could, worrying about your health. So the week of the wedding to hear about you having a heart attack through a tabloid was horrifying. I called and texted … I begged you to accept help — we sent someone to your home … and instead of speaking to me to accept this or any help, you stopped answering your phone and chose to only speak to tabloids.
She begged her father to “stop creating so much pain.”
With the Duchess expecting her first child with Prince Harry in April, it seems clear her only option is to accept and move on from the pain of her estranged relationship with her father, and focus on the wellbeing of herself and her unborn child.
