Meghan Markle has had myriad beauty looks since becoming the Duchess of Sussex, most notably reinventing royal hair with a rather modern, “messy” touch. Markle’s proclivity for messy insouciance has been well-documented; she has been both sneered and cheered for her “messy” hairstyles, which have taken the form of free-flowing tendril and bun combinations, tousled waves and casual ponytails.
But today in London, Meghan Markle veered into more traditional territory, reverting to classic codes of royal hair with a chic chignon. Visiting the Smart Works organisation, a women’s charity which helps unemployed women into the workforce, Markle opted for a polished and precise bun.
Pulled back off her face and twisted into a neat, tight chignon, the look recalled royal hair of old – or that of sister-in-law Kate Middleton. In terms of makeup, the classic Markle signatures were there; natural bronzed skin, brown eyeliner and a sheer pink lip.
Sleek and ordered most importantly, tidy, Meghan Markle’s hair will appease any disparaging monarchist. A royal up ‘do done right, indeed.
