Meghan Markle opted out of attending King Charles III’s coronation in London next month alongside her husband Prince Harry, choosing instead to stay at home in California with the couple’s two children to celebrate Archie’s 6th birthday.
In the lead-up to Harry heading to the UK, the couple is taking every opportunity to spend time together, including for a date night to a Los Angeles Lakers game on Monday night, where the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Adam Sandler also spent the evening.
For the low-key date night, Markle made the most of the warm California weather, wearing a pink linen shorts suit by the L.A.-based label Staud, made up of an oversized blazer with matching high-waisted shorts.
She wore a white T-shirt underneath and accessorised with gold jewellery, adding her favourite pair of pumps by Gianvito Rossi in a suede oatmeal-nude colourway to elevate the look.
Prince Harry, meanwhile, lent on his go-to outfit formula, made up of a crew-neck white T-shirt worn with a blazer and jeans.
Instead of sitting courtside, where most celebrities opt to be, the couple sat in the comfort of a private box, likely hoping to avoid the cameras.
However, during a break from the game, the cameraman spied the pair, unsurprisingly singling them out for a “kiss cam” moment. Taking it in their stride, they obliged with a smile and a relaxed wave before Markle broke down in the giggles, but opted to skip the PDA.
Following the announcement of Markle RSVP’ing no to the coronation, naturally, the tabloids took every opportunity to reignite the reports of a rift between the Sussexes and the wider royal family.
This includes a new rumour that Markle is skipping the event due to the response to a letter she sent her husband’s father surrounding the concept of unconscious bias – something she denied through a statement yesterday: “The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago,” a spokesperson for the Sussexes told NBC News. “Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous.”
Of course, for many Markle’s absence means one thing: a missed opportunity for one more stylish royal moment. At least we have Kate Middleton, who recently hinted at what we can expect from her wardrobe come May 5th.
