As the world collectively picks up its jaw from the announcement Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, will relinquish their role as ‘senior’ royals this year, Markle has actually made a bold fashion statement, too.
Royal ruckus aside, let us turn to Meghan Markle’s first outfit of the year on a visit to Canada House in London. A lesson in tonal dressing if we ever did see it, the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in an entire brown-hued ensemble.
First there was the coffee-coloured turtleneck jumper, then the chocolatey satin skirt by Vince (which has inevitably sold out), and then a camel coat by Reiss, which she slung both across her shoulders and carried in her hands. Then, of course, arguably the most important part of any look: the shoes. Markle made an interesting choice, a pointed pump by Jimmy Choo in a rich chocolate brown velvet.
In another shocking move (by sovereign standards, anyway), it’s not the first time the Duchess has worn the shiny pump. Back in 2018, Markle wore the velvet heels on a trip to Belfast with Prince Harry while visiting a youth-led initiative called Amazing the Space.
Along with a slew of celebrities including Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian West, the Spring Summer 2020 shows made a very strong case for tonal dressing, with the likes of Sies Marjan, Sally LaPointe and Roksanda sending mighty monochrome colour down the runway.
It seems the world simply can’t get enough of sticking to one shade – and one shade only. As for Meghan Markle’s outfit, you can shop the exact shoes below (just in a different shade of brown).
