In response to stunning claims that Meghan Markle reduced some of her palace staff members to tears, a good number of her friends – including Suits co-star Patrick J. Adams, Jameela Jamil, Janina Gavankar and Meghan’s college BFF Lindsay Roth – have publicly defended her.
Just days out from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, (one where the couple are expected to make shocking claims about their time in the Royal family), The Times Of London published a damning report where several members of Markle’s staff claim they were bullied by her. Two have said they were driven out of the household while a third says their confidence was undermined.
Adams, who played Markle’s on-screen lover on hit television show Suits, posted a lengthy, moving character testament to his friend on his Instagram, denouncing her treatment by the Royal Family as “sickening”.
“Meghan Markle and I spent the better part of a decade working together on Suits,” he said.
“From day one she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, giving, joyful and supporting member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague as fame, prestige and power accrued.
“She has always been a powerful woman with a deep sense of morality and a fierce work ethic and has never been afraid to speak up, be heard and defend herself and those she holds dear.
“Like the rest of the world, I have watched her navigate the last few years in astonishment. She fell in love, moved to a new country, became a household name across the entire globe and began the difficult work of trying to find her place in a family dynamic that can at best be described as complicated and at worst, seemingly archaic and toxic.
“It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, clickbaiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the UK and the world but I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realised or understood and they would regret underestimating her.
“And then they welcomed Archie. And on any sort of decent planet that would be a time to stop sharpening the knives and let these two people enjoy the magical early months and years of starting a family. But we don’t live on that planet and instead the hunt continued.
“It’s OBSCENE that the royal family, whose newest member is currently GROWING INSIDE OF HER, is promoting and amplifying accusations of ‘bullying’ against a woman who herself was basically forced to flee the UK in order to protect her family and her own mental health.
“In my opinion, this newest chapter and its timing is just another stunning example of the shamelessness of an institution that has outlived its relevance, is way overdrawn on credibility and apparently bankrupt of decency.
“Find someone else to admonish, berate and torment. My friend Meghan is way out of your league.”
Fellow actress and friend to Markle Gavankar posted to her Twitter, “I have known Meghan for 17 years. Here’s what she is: kind, strong, open. Here’s what she’s not: “a bully”. ANY of us who know her, feel the same thing from her broken silence: Relief. The truth shall set you free.”

TV producer and author Roth took to her Instagram in a lengthy post to, like Gavankar, vouch for the Duchess’ kindness.
“Meg’s M.O. has always been kindness; goodwill runs in her bones. I know this to be true after 22 years of very close friendship. I have seen first-hand how she treats her friends and their families, and her colleagues,” Roth captioned a series of pictures.
“If she’s driving with you in the passenger seat, she will fling her right arm in front of you at the slightest bump in a gesture of love to ensure your safety. If you have a specific goal, she will help you get there, and your passions will become hers on your behalf. If you ever have the pleasure of meeting Meg – and I hope more of you do – you will see the altruistic, magnanimous friend who I am so lucky to have in my corner.”
It was Jamil’s note, however, that seemed to land with most people. The fellow actress questioned why the palace is only investigating these claims now when they seemingly happened years ago.
“So lemme just get this straight. The palace were fine with all of Meghan’s ‘bullying’ for years and years until a few days before they fear she may out them publicly,” Jamil said on Twitter on Thursday. “Seems like a legit claim.”

A new excerpt from the Oprah interview shows the talk show host asking Markle how she feels about the palace hearing her speak her truth in the interview.
“I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us,” replied Markle.
Just like Vice President Kamala Harris’ niece tweeted, we’re blocking out our calendars for an all-day event come this interview on March 7.
