More than a decade after Mean Girls premiered in 2004, launching a pop culture icon and some of the most oft-quoted movie lines our time (“she doesn’t even go here!”) it’s coming to Broadway.

Mean Girls the musical was written by Tina Fey, who also wrote the film, and will debut in the US capital Washington D.C. next month before hitting New York’s Broadway in March 2018.

Entertainment Weekly has shared the first look at the new Plastics, the performers who’ll bring Regina George, Karen Smith and Gretchen Weiners to the stage.

Kate Rockwell will play Karen (Amanda Seyfried in the movie), Taylor Louderman portrays Regina (Rachel McAdams), and Ashley Park is Gretchen (Lacey Chabert).

Mean Girls the musical has been in the works for a while, as Fey told Entertainment Weekly.

“It came about years later [after the film], after seeing the stickiness that the movie had, and the fact that it’s always on TBS and how it sort of wormed its way into everyday speech more than any of us expected,” she said.

Mean Girls has also become a crucial reference point in the giph and meme age.

You’d better start planning a 2018 trip to New York. Sure, the musical might come to Australia eventually, but who could be patient enough to wait that long?
