We’re all guilty of it. Wearing makeup to the gym, sweating through layers of foundation and concealer and highlighter, leaving looking like a shiny disco ball. But this morning, P.E Nation made quite a compelling case for sweaty skin. Or rather, sweaty-looking skin. The difference is a lot of skin prep, a mound of M.A.C products and Carol Mackie’s hands, the Senior Makeup Artist for M.A.C Cosmetics.
“We are using heaps of prepping products, so it’s all about skin, always. But always at P.E. Nation, because want to give them that kind of ‘I’ve worked up a sweat’, super healthy, green-juices-in-the-morning glow,” explains Mackie. First, skin was given its own kind of “workout” with Neutrogena’s Deep Clean Cleansing Oils, for a truly fresh canvas. Then this idea of a “healthy glow” was explored via a clever mix of M.A.C Prep + Prime Softening Lotion, a lot of Care Blend Oil and of course, Prep + Prime Fix Plus, that were “massaged into the skin”. As for that deliciously dewy patch on the apple of the cheek and above the brow bone, a blend “of the Essential Oils with a little bit of Strobe Body Lotion, which is a slightly lighter texture than the Strobe Cream” made highlighting dreams.
And in that true M.A.C fashion, multi-purposing product was key. “On the eyes and lips, we’re using a lipstick which is Smoked Almond. We’re using it as a stain on the eye and the lips, just for this beautiful kind of rusty, organic, monochromatic colour,” says Mackie.
For the final, shimmering touch; a glint of gold, for “that armour, that strength, that Pip-power.” Eloquently dripping from model lobes or flecked on the inner corners, it shone with the kind of strength synonymous with the P.E woman. “Because we all want to be Pip, don’t we?”
