“Cherry red chariot, excess is just my character”, Rick Ross once lamented (or gloated) on the Kanye West deep cut, Devil in a New Dress. Should the devil be looking to invest in some new eveningwear with deep cuts of its own, they need not look further than Michael Lo Sordo’s sensuous Resort 2018 offering Acceidential Secrétaire [sic]: a succession of languid and layered ensembles shot through with a shock of brilliant cherry red, one that cut through the evening’s proceedings like a beacon of daring.

Like Ross, Lo Sordo’s woman appeared unafraid of excess, layering the designer’s signature silk gowns over lace bodysuits and bralets. Voluminous outerwear garments and chic tailored pieces alike were belted at the waist or held together at the back and seams by flyaway ring ties and a devil-may-care attitude.

More challenging were a series of five or so shirt-dresses in blue or pinstripe cotton and one silk skirt rendered in the ubiquitous pink hue favoured by ‘millennials’, or those marketing to them. Each was made memorable by generous cut outs on the hip that further deconstructed the already undone garments and strongly hinted at what lies beneath (trouble, most likely).

They won’t be for the faint-hearted, but then again, Lo Sordo’s girl has never been one to blush. Ride on.
