“When you left, I lost a part of me, it’s still so hard to believe”. Ah, the We Belong Together lyrics ring out in my ears as I’m writing this one. For it is definitely not hard to believe Mariah Carey has sold her multi-million-dollar engagement ring Australian billionaire and ex-fiancé James Packer gave her in January 2016.

According to Page Six – and in further evidence that even the wealthiest among us can also be extremely bitter when it comes to matters of the heart – Carey has quietly got her business manager to sell the 35 carat Wilfredo Rosado-designed ring to a Los Angeles-based jeweler for US$2.1 million (AUD$2.78 million). Packer reportedly paid US$10 million for it (AUD$13.2 million). When the couple split, the ring was part of the settlement.

While the jeweler had to sign a confidentiality agreement, Carey’s publicist didn’t exactly deny the report when contacted by Page Six. “Mariah has been very vocal recently about her choice to move forward in her life surrounded by positivity,” her publicist said. “That requires leaving emotional and material baggage behind, including an old engagement ring from an ex-boyfriend.”

You’ve got to hand it to Mimi: She is good at break-ups. Really good. Now we wait for the “I don’t know him” line in her next interview.

Meanwhile let’s take this opportunity to revisit our favourite Mariah hit – and the one she’s definitely not dedicating to Packer on stage:
