The Dogpound. Its name is synonymous with the hardest working models in the industry; Gigi and Bella Hadid, Lais Ribeiro, Josephine Skriver, the goes on. For the uninitiated, The Dogpound is a boxing gym located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City. On any given day, you’ll spot a famous face in there throwing tin around, perhaps a black tyre or even doing some bench-pressing to a rap beat. While an unpretentious space, there’s always someone filming another for Instagram. And so, thousands of posts later, an institution began.
This year, Dogpound has gained even more traction thanks to its Vitoria’s Secret clientele. It’s trainers even travelled to Shanghai to set up a 24/7 mobile gym for last-minute muscle management. Now, editor-in-chief of LOVE, Katie Grand, decided to make The Dogpound the set for 2017’s famous Advent calendar.
“I bumped into Ashley Graham [at the gym] and she mentioned LOVE Advent,” Grand said. “I thought, wouldn’t this be a great place to set most of it?”
Every year – well, for the past seven anyway – the magazine has released its own spin on the advent calendar. Instead of opening a little cardboard window to a mini chocolate every day in December, LOVE’s audience receive a new video featuring a top model. This year’s line-up has to be its best yet: The Hadid sisters, Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, Jourdan Dunn, Ashley Graham, Doutzen Kroes, Karlie Kloss, Sara Sampaio, Taylor Hill, Kate Upton, Winnie Harlow and Hailey Baldwin. The theme: #StayStrong. Quote of December? “I love pasta and being greased up in olive oli more than life itself” – Em Rata.
