The US election has become a political farce of heights never seen before. It’s largely due to presidential candidate Donald Trump, a non-politician and polarising figure whose behavior only continues to become more outrageous as November 8 nears.
So when Lady Gaga travelled to the UK to promote her new album Joanne recently, the Brits all wanted to hear the Hillary Clinton supporter’s political views. And while she was only happy to reiterate her support for Clinton, Trump left her stumped.
In an interview on BBC Breakfast, host Charlie Stayt asked Gaga for her thoughts on the Donald.
“I have nothing to say of him” was her only response.
“I’m intrigued that you literally won’t say anything about him,” Stayt pressed.
“You have endorsed Hillary Clinton. What do you think that she will do that he will not?”
Gaga took an excruciatingly long 10-second pause, offered a deep sigh, and then replied “I think she will do a good job.”
After another extended pause for thought, she continued: “Some people want to win races. Other people want to be president of the United States and change people’s lives. It’s about the intention.”
It seems the singer thinks Trump has already received more than enough attention and airtime, and doesn’t want to give him another second of publicity.
She did offer some insights into how Americans – and the world – should approach the upcoming election.
“I think what is most important is for us to try to decipher now what is real and what is not. And what is honest and what is dishonest and be accepting of those things and not operating from fear.”
Miley Cyrus, Lena Dunham, Amy Schumer, Katy Perry, Beyonce and Meryl Streep are among the A-listers who have publicly throw their support behind Clinton.
The US presidential election is on November 8.
