The other day, Lady Gaga shared a photo of herself wearing a fishnets, a neon thong, and a sheet mask while bobbing around in her jacuzzi on a pool float. Her Instagram is a blessed place when it comes to beauty and wellness, jam-packed with all the weird and wonderful ways in which she looks after herself (Lady Gaga has fibromyalgia, meaning that maintaining her health is very high on the list of priorities).

Now we know how she decompresses after one of her intensely physical stage shows: a freezing cold ice bath for five to 10 minutes, a slightly more zen hot bath for 20, and then a lie down whilst wearing a compression suit loaded up with ice packs. Chill.

These rituals are essentially a form of cryotherapy: subjecting the body to freezing temperatures for a short period of time. The idea is that it promotes muscle recovery, and encourages oxygenated blood to rush to surface tissue once it’s over. It’s popular among athletes and celebrities – case in point: Gaga.

As for before the show? A tough workout and laps in the pool, but also crazy stretching on a machine that looks somewhere between a torture device and Pilates machine (as demonstrated on her IG stories).

Given her health condition (characterised by intense muscle pain, fatigue, mood and memory issues), it’s understandable why she goes to such crazy measures to help her body keep up with her schedule (including a residency in Las Vegas), but the pink one piece, eye mask, and hair keep it very her.
