Besides her collaboration with Tony Bennett in 2014 for a jazz cover album, It’s been more than 2 years since Lady Gaga’s last solo album ARTPOP. Since then, she’s been linked to a slew of tabloid dramas such as splitting from her then-manager Troy Carter and almost quitting the music industry.
With the music video release of her new song Perfect Illusion, the first single off of her fifth studio album Joanne during the season 2 premiere of Scream Queens, fans were expecting an avant-garde over the top extravaganza as per the Lady Gaga brand, but instead were pleasantly surprised by a more stripped back version of the pop star.
Debuting at no. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 at its release, the song, written by Lady Gaga with Tame Impala front man Kevin Parker, Bloodpop and Mark Ronson (Uptown Funk) has been compared to Bruce Springsteen’s music.The fast-paced video, with guess appearances by all the writers shows Lady Gaga performing in a dessert, in a simple tee shirt and shorts, slinging a microphone as lights flash and people dance around her.
