If there’s one thing Lady Gaga knows how to do—other than, you know, sing and act really well—it’s how to break the internet through her candid celebrity friendships. First, it was Bradley Cooper during the co-star’s A Star is Born-era, then Adam Driver during House of Gucci where they’d be pictured feeding each other mince pies on set. Now, it’s Jake Gyllenhaal’s turn.

The unlikely duo paired up for a new interview and photoshoot for Variety’s Actors on Actors portfolio, during which they gushed over each other’s work: Gaga taking it all the way back to the early aughts with Donnie Darko and Gyllenhaal fanboying over House of Gucci. But it was the accompanying photoshoot—and candid conversation throughout—that really got fans going.

On the cover, the duo pose intimately with Gyllenhaal’s arm draped over Gaga’s lap as her head leans on his. At one point, writer Ramin Setoodeh describes how Gyllenhaal wraps his arm around Gaga and says, “I’ve never held anyone like this.” Gaga replied by joking adding, “Mommy and Daddy love each other,” before affectionately calling Gyllenhaal “honey.”

Someone tell Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly we have a new internet mom and dad.

Furthermore, during their conversation, Gaga dubbed Gyllenhaal’s 2001 film Donnie Darko religion. Speaking directly to the actor, Gaga said, “I don’t want to lie and tell you I haven’t seen it so many times.” To which Gyllenhaal responded, “Really? OK. That just made my day.”

“In the world of music, but in fashion as well, Donnie Darko, it’s religion,” Gaga went on. “It really is. And if you know your shit, you know Donnie Darko.”

Gyllenhaal responded by talking about how much he loved Gaga’s recent project, House of Gucci, saying one of his favourite things about it was “that the film has such an operatic style and it has so many characters surrounding [Gaga’s] character.”

“And opera is one of my favourite forms of expression to watch,” he continued. “But to see a performance that stays true to reality was incredible.”

But the gushing didn’t stop there. Gyllenhaal went on to say he’s “amazed” by Gaga’s songwriting and performing ability, saying they are “extraordinary mind-boggling.”

“And then you’ve somehow seamlessly been able to come into the world of storytelling in another form. And for me, when I think about acting in movies, I think of it as fits and starts. It’s not a song. You get little moments you have to pull off. I’m so interested in your point of view, going into those little moments,” he said.

Bless.
