La La Land hasn’t even hit cinemas yet, but there’s already significant buzz tipping it as the film most likely to win Best Picture at next year’s Academy Awards. Carrying the romantic musical is its stars, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

A new featurette released today ahead of La La Land’s Australian premiere in January gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the film, including brief interviews with Director Damien Chazelle and Producer Marc Platt.

Gosling and Stone’s synergy as actors was first noted in Crazy, Stupid Love and again in Gangster Squad, and Platt goes as far to say that the two are one of the most exciting actor pairings in a long time.

“You have two actors [here] who have an onscreen chemistry that, I think, is one for the ages,” he says. Chazelle agrees, describing Gosling and Stone as “like a Fred [Astaire] and Ginger [Rogers] or [Humphrey] Bogart and [Lauren] Bacall — a classic Hollywood screen couple.”

With its story of a young musician [Gosling] and singer [Stone] struggling to make it in Hollywood, and the frequent breaking out into musical numbers, La La Land certainly calls to mind the classics, and looks set to become one itself, if all that buzz is to be believed.
