Off the back of a whirlwind awards season for her portrayal as Princess Diana in Spencer – the role that earnt her her first Oscars nod, Kristen Stewart isn’t taking any downtime to relax, nor plan her upcoming wedding. Instead, the actress has signed on for a new project. The premise? A romantic thriller that’s set in the world of…competitive bodybuilding.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stewart has signed on for A24’s – that’s the production company behind pretty much every amazing indie movie of the moment, including Ladybird, Moonlight and Uncut Jams Gems – upcoming film Love Lies Bleeding.
Directed by Rose Glass, the woman behind the two-time BAFTA-nominated thriller Saint Maud (her debut feature), the upcoming film is “centred on the extreme qualities it takes to succeed in the competitive world of bodybuilding.” It’s also being described as “a romance fueled by ego, desire, and the American dream.”
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing Stewart undergo some Charlize Theron Monster level transformation for the role: she’s not playing the bodybuilder but has rather been cast as the film’s co-lead: the female bodybuilder’s protective lover.
Further details about the film – including who Steward’s co-star and on-screen lover will be – have so far been kept under wraps, but given A24 is at the helm and Stewart’s acting keeps getting better and better, we already can hardly wait.
In the meantime, we’re guessing Stewart is focusing her attention on her nuptials to screenwriter Dylan Meyers, with whom she made her red carpet debut at the Oscars.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this year, Stewart said her and Meyer’s wedding will likely be unconventional. “I don’t know how many traditions we’re going to follow,” she told the publication, before adding that she already knows what she’s wearing.
Though we’d love a sneak peek at Stewart as a bride (a Chanel couture gown?!) unfortunately, that’s about all the information she’s willing to share. “I can’t tell you,” she added when pressed for details, before saying the pair plan to surprise each other on the day with their attire. “Like, the whole thing, we kind of have to do the surprise thing,” she explained.
