It’s the question pretty much any female celebrity can count on being asked in an interview:

‘Are you a feminist?’

No matter how they answer, they’re almost certainly doomed in the public courtroom that is internet comments sections. If they say no, they’ll be accused of not supporting gender equality (even though that’s almost never their reasoning), and if they say yes, once all the headlines screaming that they’ve declared themselves a feminist have been published, they’ll be criticised for not doing enough to support the cause.

But Kim Kardashian has stated repeatedly that she doesn’t read comments about herself anymore and ignores the hate, so she probably wasn’t worried about saying that she’s not a feminist at BlogHer 16, an annual conference for female bloggers, online writers and content creators in Los Angeles on Friday.

“I don’t think that I am [a feminist],” she said. “I don’t like labels.

“I do what makes me happy and I want women to be confident. I am so supportive of women. I love nothing more than when I’m with all my friends and I love to support women but I’m not a ‘free the nipple-type” of girl.”

The last part of her answer might raise some eyebrows given Kim has freed her nipple on plenty of occasions. She addressed the motivation behind the nude photos she’s posted to Instagram or posed for in magazines, and apparently they’re not so much intended to be a symbol of female empowerment, but more to serve as a kick in the pants to get to the gym.

“When you dedicate yourself to getting up every morning, wake up at six in the morning, feeding one baby, get to go work out for an hour, coming back, feeding another baby, my husband … you can just get so caught up in not wanting to be motivated. So I made it a really important thing for my confidence and for me to feel good. Have I posted a new selfie since I lost all my baby weight? I don’t think so!”

And if you don’t like it and want to let Kim know, chances are she’ll never read your comment anyway. She said while she used to care about what people wrote about her, she’s changed since having a family.

“I don’t really have the extra time to look at comments. I know that the hate is out there. When I post something, whether it’s a nude selfie or something, I don’t post it just to get a reaction. I post it because I like the photo. It could be really something simple, so I’m not really looking at what the comments are.”
