Kim Kardashian has been vocal about the impact her relationship with Kanye West had on her style evolution and standing in the fashion industry, revealing in a recent interview that she’s been in a process of rediscovering herself since their divorce just over one year ago.
During this transitional time, Kardashian has publicly, for the most part, played it safe by continuing to almost exclusively wear Balenciaga whenever she steps out of the house, whether it’s for a red carpet or date night. (The jury is out for how ‘safe’ you can call a head-to-toe bodysuit made of Balenciaga-themed yellow caution tape at fashion week, but hey).
However, for her most recent night out to open her new Skims swimwear pop-up shop in Miami, Kardashian ditched Balenciaga almost entirely and opted instead for a look that wouldn’t be amiss in her early 2010 Paris Hilton-esque, Dash days, very Miami wardrobe: a silver metallic bra and matching leggings paired with PVC heeled boots.
As with everything Kardashian does, this look was considered: not only was she insinuating her new Skims swimwear line also works in the clubs, but so too do their matching latex-look leggings. This is the woman who almost singlehandedly signalled the start of glam athleisure, after all.
In a small nod to her current-day style, Kardashian wore her favourite Balenciaga sunglasses to the event, which she attended alongside her sister Khloe Kardashian in lieu of taking her boyfriend Pete Davidson.
Davidson and Kardashian might not be at the Rihanna and A$AP Rocky level of Fenty pop up couple date nights yet, but Davidson has already been initiated into the Kardashian-Jenner fold and spent the night of his girlfriend’s absence on a ‘boy’s night’ with Scott Disick.
