She’s been unfairly knocked for rallying for criminal justice reform but that isn’t deterring reality star and law student Kim Kardashian-West from trying to free another prisoner from incarceration.

Kardashian is hoping to overturn a prison sentence against 55-year-old Kevin Keith, an inmate who is convicted of killing three people and is currently serving out life, without parole, in an Ohio jail. Keith was imprisoned in 1994 after being charged with murdering three females in South Cleveland; Marichell Chatman, her daughter 4-year-old Marchae and Marichell’s aunt Linda Chatman. He was also accused of shooting three people, although they survived. A judge sentenced Keith to death row.

Interestingly, in 2010, 13 days before he was to be executed, Keith’s sentence was commuted to life in prison because of “questions raised about the way his trial was conducted”, reports Cleveland.com. Kardashian has said after looking further into Keith’s case, that he is an innocent man.

“I heard about Kevin Keith’s case last year & the more I learn about it, the more I believe the world needs to hear what happened to him!,” Kardashian wrote. “He was on death row & came w/in days of execution before the governor of Ohio commuted his sentence to life w/o parole.”

“I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin Keith through a video visit & was so impressed w/ the amazing programs he created in prison to help others inside better themselves,” said Kardashian. “So much evidence has been uncovered proving Kevin’s innocence. I hope justice is served soon & he is released.”

Kardashian wielded her power as one of the most famous women in the world to secure meeting time with President Donald Trump at the White House last year. Here she asked the commander in chief to pardon 62-year-old grandmother Alice Johnson who was serving a life sentence in a prison in Aliceville for her role in a drug trafficking crime in the 90s. It was her first offense. In a moving phone call in June 2018, Kardashian West told Johnson she was free; After 21 years behind bars, Johnson was coming home to her family. It was an incredible moment.
