Kim Kardashian is no stranger to criticism, but her decision to pose as the late Jackie O is drawing plenty of backlash, with many saying it’s in poor taste.

Kim poses with daughter North, four, on the cover and in a photoshoot for Interview magazine.

Kardashian is dressed in the style of the late American First Lady – lots of pearls, gloves, sunglasses and coiffed hair – and she and North pose in rooms made to look like the interior of the White House.

While possibly not Kim’s choice, the magazine’s cover declares her “America’s New First Lady”, which many found not only factually incorrect but offensive to make such a declaration about a reality TV star.

“It is laughable to call Kim a First Lady,” one Twitter user wrote. “She could never be Michelle O or Jackie O. Hell, she’s barely even Marilyn.”

“Don’t you dare disrespect Jackie Kennedy like this,” another person commented, while someone else said “Jackie is turning in her grave at this garbage.”

One person needed just a hashtag to get their point across.

But the photographer behind the photoshoot Steven Klein does not agree.

“As a model, Kim is a chameleon,” he told Interview.

“She can easily change accordingly to the set intention and with little effort. It is her gift: her innate relationship to the camera. A muse of modern times.”

In an accompanying interview, Kim seemed to pre-empt some criticism, and was on the defensive when it comes to perceptions about her.

“You can say a lot of things about me, but you cannot say I don’t work hard. I don’t sing. I don’t dance. I don’t act. But I am not lazy.”
