Calls for Chloë Sevigny to “be handed an Oscar” are rife after the 49-year-old indie film and fashion darling was paired with reality television star and chief arbiter of twenty-first-century beauty standards, Kim Kardashian, for Variety’s latest instalment of “Actors On Actors,” a popular online series where actors interview one another.

Recently, we’ve watched Margot Robbie be paired with Cillian Murphy. Natalie Portman with Paul Mescal. Emma Stone with Bradley Cooper. Emily Blunt with Anne Hathaway. Andrew Scott with Greta Lee. The list goes on. So, when Golden Globe-winning actor Sevigny was paired with Kardashian, who doesn’t have a huge amount of acting credits to her name, eyebrows were raised.

The valid connection, however, is both women are starring in Ryan Murphy projects; Sevigny in Feud: Capote vs. the Swans and Kardashian in the 12th series of American Horror Story: Delicate.

While Sevigny fans were likely to already have had their cyber pitchforks at the ready, none could prepare them for Kardashian’s answer to Sevigny asking her what the best piece of acting advice she ever received was.

“The one acting tip I got from an acting coach was to never bring your phone on set,” says Kardashian.

“Interesting,” replies Sevigny.

“I was like, ‘Could it be in the trailer? Where’s the set start?’” Kardashian continued. “I’ve always understood that and respected that.”

Another note-worthy soundbite was when Kardashian referenced wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the 2022 Met Gala as a means of explaining how she gets into character.

“I’m a big fan of owning memorabilia or pieces with energy of people that I love. I wore Marilyn Monroe’s dress once and took it all in. I actually bought a watch of Jackie [Kennedy’s],” she explained.

The internet wasn’t so kind to Kardashian, 43, and the publication’s choice of pairing.

“Chloë deserves an Oscar for this,” one user wrote.

“Chloë is an icon. She deserved better than this,” another wrote.

“This is painful,” another wrote.

But it appears Sevigny wasn’t impressed with the internet’s comments about her interview subject. In an Instagram post, she made clear her support of Kardashian.

“Our chosen career of actor has many forms,” Sevigny told her 1.1 million followers. “Some are rewarded early. Some of us are the journeymen, some have a quieter route, and some a much louder one. And I am always excited to celebrate every kind of actor.”
