So today we’re talking glass skin. The trend, which began in Korea several years ago, celebrates seemingly poreless complexions that bear a mirrorball radiance – as if the skin were like glass. Many argue that such a rare skin type comes down to regimented skincare practices, but it remains unrealistic for most of us who can’t hope to have our pores completely evaporate with AHAs or a few drops of serum – trust me I’ve tried, but it really comes down to your genetics.

So while I wouldn’t encourage aiming to achieve glass skin via skincare, would I be against faking it with makeup? Absolutely not. Which is why I was recently so overjoyed to discover that a product I had hiding in the back of my makeup drawer – Kevyn Aucoin’s Glass Glow Face ($49) – had actually gone viral for this very purpose.

Makeup and beauty enthusiasts on the platform have been declaring their love for the liquid illuminator, which was designed to be applied directly to the skin or mixed in with your base of choice. As user @gallyglam demonstrated, applying just one swipe of the product over the cheeks with a brush can deliver a glass skin finish.

You can use it over the rest of your complexion for an all-over glow, or apply it under foundation and only to the high points of the face for a more subtle effect.

When I first saw this video I ran to my bathroom to find my Glass Glow Face. While most of the videos recommend the Crystal Clear shade for a natural result on all skin tones (I’m very fair), I only had the Spectrum Bronze shade on hand, which is said to be great for adding glow to deeper skin tones.

I decided to apply only a little and mixed it in with my base to dilute the colour, only using it on my cheeks and down my nose. My skin immediately had an incandescent glow that looked glossy, like a glazed donut. Using it only on the high points of my face meant that my oily complexion didn’t take on a greasy appearance, either.

I was convinced and will subsequently be heading straight to MECCA to pick up every single one of the other shades.
