Kendall Jenner has opened up about her father Caitlyn Jenner’s gender transition, giving an honest insight into what it’s like to have a transgender parent.
The 20-year-old, one of Caitlyn’s six children from her two marriages prior to fully embracing her identity as a trans woman in 2015, told Vogue their relationship is “super normal” and “not weird at all”, but she does sometimes mourn for Bruce.
“Sometimes I look at a picture of my dad when she was a guy, and it makes me a little sad—I get emotional,” the model explained.
“You have to get past it—you’ve got a new person to love. It’s kind of a blessing in disguise—if that’s not the wrong way to say it.”
She added that the strangest thing for her is that her dad influenced her tomboy-ish ways as a little girl.
“It’s super ironic to think about now, but it’s something I can thank my dad for: how much of a tomboy I was.
“That’s why I think the whole thing—her transition—was really hard for me, because I was like, ‘But you taught me everything tomboy!'”
Kendall’s comments come as hit Amazon series Transparent, a comedy series centred on a family as the father (played by Jeffrey Tambor) comes out as transgender, prepares for its season three premiere on September 23.
