On a day when Jennifer Lopez is ruling the internet with her jaw-dropping, booty-shaking, spread-eagling Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, fellow Halftime Super Bowl-er Katy Perry (she performed at the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show in 2015) has done her own take on the Versace palm print Lopez made so famous back in 2000.

In Hawaii for American Idol, Perry posed against a perfect Oahu sunset in a look from Versace Spring-Summer 2020 which riffs on the iconic plunging palm print dress of 2000 Grammy Awards fame.

Instead of bright green and navel-baring, however, Katy Perry’s take was hot pink and orange and high at the neck, almost cut like a muscle tee (but a very, very glamorous one). Draped at the sides with the kind of drapery synonymous with Antiquity, the dress recalls the Grecian goddess in her most glamorous form, featuring precarious cut-outs at the obliques and a gold clasp at the centre, she finished the look with gilt Medusa-laden accessories and hot pink pointed pumps.

While in 2019 she was riding “Harleys in Hawaii”, in 2020 she’s wearing Versace in Hawaii – a much better fit if you ask us (especially considering that tropical heat).

As Perry said on Instagram, “do you know the hotter the fire the purer the gold is…” And when the fashion fire is this hot, the gold is damn pure.
