Adding to the media circus surrounding the current legal battle between actors and exes Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is the list of high-profile names thought to be testifying in the case in the coming weeks. The first, Depp’s ex-girlfriend, British supermodel Kate Moss, appeared in the courtroom via video link just a few hours ago to address an alleged incident Heard brought up in court during her relationship with Depp from 1994 to 1997.

Saying it’s her first time testifying in a court case, Moss addressed falling down a flight of stairs at a resort in Jamaica, where she was staying with Depp, clarifying the actor did not push her.

“We were leaving the room and Johnny left the room before I did,” Moss said. “There had been a rainstorm. As I left the room, I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back. I screamed because I didn’t know what happened to me and I was in pain. He came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention.”

“He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs,” Moss added.

Moss’ name was mentioned earlier this month in the courtroom by Heard, who was discussing an alleged altercation that happened on a staircase back in March 2015 between Depp and Heard’s sister Whitney Henriquez.

Heard said her sister got “in the line of fire … trying to get Johnny to stop,” but where the incident was taking place was close to the top of the stairs, which reminded her of a rumoured incident between Moss and Depp involving a staircase. This, she said, prompted her to intervene to defend her younger sister.

“[Whitney’s] back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her,” Heard testified. “I don’t hesitate, I don’t wait — I just, in my head, instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs. And I swung at him.”

“In all of my relationship to date with Johnny, I hadn’t landed a blow. And I, for the first time, hit him — like, actually hit him. Square in the face,” Heard added. “He didn’t push my sister down the stairs.” (Henriquez confirmed this account, testifying later that Depp hit her and then “repeatedly” struck Heard).

Heard also previously brought up the Moss staircase allegation during her testimony at Depp’s U.K. defamation trial in 2020 against British tabloid The Sun for calling him a “wife-beater,” reports The New York Post. At the time she said, “I remembered information I had heard [that] he pushed a former girlfriend — I believe it was Kate Moss — down the stairs. I had heard this rumour from two people and it was fresh in my mind.” In that case, the court upheld the outlet’s claims as being “substantially true.”
