As Kate Moss stepped onto the Cannes Film Festival red carpet on Monday for the first time in 15 years, her absence for all that time was suddenly felt.

The model icon effortlessly captured the essence of Cannes glamour in a vintage red Halston one-shoulder gown, with a high split that allowed her to create what will surely be one of this years’ most iconic Cannes moments: Kate Moss, sticking one slender leg out from under her dress on the steps of the theatre.

Adding to the sophistication of her look was the pair of glittering chandeliers dangling from her ears, her hair swept into a sleek up-do. As per usual with Moss, 42, she kept her make-up muted with a subtle smoky-eye and a nude lip.

It was one of the festival’s most highly-anticipated screenings that lured Moss to the French Riviera – Jeff Nicholas’ based-on-a-true-story film Loving, which tells the story of the interracial couple whose marriage led to the 1958 US Supreme Court ruling that made marriage a human right.

Moss’ return to one of the world’s most glamorous annual events has highlighted all the iconic Kate at Cannes moments that could have been. But let’s not linger on that kind of depressing thought and just hope she doesn’t wait so long next time.
