Kate Middleton has always used her platform to elevate British brands, many of which, such as Alexander McQueen and Emilia Wickstead, have made up her signature style since her early days as a royal. But for a reception last night in Belize as part of her and Prince William’s royal tour of the Caribbean, the Duchess of Cambridge stepped away from her go-to designers and instead spotlit one of the UK’s coolest creatives: Susie Cave and her label The Vampire’s Wife.

Known for its signature metallic gowns, The Vampire’s Wife was for years one of the London fashion set’s favourite IYKYK brands, worn by British It girls such as Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller and Chloe Grace Moretz. In recent years, it’s blown up on a global scale – helped along by Middleton, who first wore one of its sparkly dresses in green in 2020. Since then, the likes of Dakota Johnson, Natalie Portman and Jennifer Aniston have been photographed in its designs, though the universally flattering silhouettes never get tired.

Case in point is Middleton’s latest look. Choosing the brand’s full-length Light Sleeper silhouette, which has capped sleeves, in a hot pink colourway, Middleton looked every bit island fresh and young. She added silver Jimmy Choo heels, an embroidered Mayan clutch and a pair of Onitaa earrings to finish off her outfit and wore her usually wavy brunette hair straight and parted down the middle.

Not only did Middleton pick a pleasantly surprising designer to pack for her overseas trip, but she chose an unsuspecting colourway, too—one that was front and centre on the recent fashion week runways and one which fashion-forward Kim Kardashian has been sporting of late: hot pink. (Though we’d hazard a bet there’s no Balenciaga in that royal suitcase).

If this look is anything to go by, we can’t wait to see what the Duchess has in store for the rest of her tour.
