When Kate Middleton sought privacy in January 2024 for her planned abdominal surgery and subsequent preventative chemotherapy treatment, the Palace scheduled her return to duty after the Easter weekend. Now, with the widespread revelation of her cancer diagnosis, it’s apparent the royal family’s annual Easter service in Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel will take a different form this year.

While royalists may have hoped that Middleton would be well enough to attend the traditional liturgical display, new reports have claimed to confirm the roster of senior royals who’ll be present—and no, the Wales will not be joining.

The Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are reported to be spending time in Sandringham, the royal’s country estate in Norfolk. (A location quite close to the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, Rose Hanbury, who inadvertently found herself in headlines amid speculation of Middleton’s “disappearance”).

Prince William and Middleton were seen boarding a helicopter near their home of Adelaide Cottage on the west London grounds. Their time together as a family is presumably part of their shared decision to manage Middleton’s diagnosis privately “for the sake of [their] young family,” as the former Duchess of Cambridge advised in her video message announcing her diagnosis.

King Charles III, who was also diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, though it’s not revealed what kind, will be present with his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, for the annual event. This will be the first royal event the monarch has attended since sharing his prognosis.

Middleton’s plea for “time space and privacy” while she completes her treatment still remains as her paramount concern at this time is making a full recovery. As per Buckingham Palace, Middleton remains working from home in the meantime and will return to the public eye once ready.
