It’s been a turbulent time for the royal family, with both King Charles II and Kate Middleton revealing cancer diagnoses. But though she’s taken time to recover in private, the Princess of Wales has made a shining return to public life over the weekend, even getting behind the camera right for a sweet Father’s Day tribute to Prince William.

As Father’s Day in the northern hemisphere took place on June 16, the Wales family posted a photo on their Instagram page celebrating their patriarch, Prince William. As captured by Middleton, the snap showed a casually dressed William embracing his three children; Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as they enjoy a beachside afternoon.

In a first for the royals, the photo ran alongside a caption signed by the three youngins.

“We love you, Papa,” read the message. “Happy Father’s Day 💕 G, C & L”

Just the day before, Middleton made her first public appearance since December of 2023 for the Trooping the Colour ceremony on June 15.

Still currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments, the 42-year-old bravely stepped out with her family, bringing much ease to her concerned admirers.

Just before making her grand return, she posted an Instagram update on her condition and thanked the public for their support.

“I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months. It really has made a world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times,” she wrote. “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days, you feel weak and tired, and you have to give in to your body’s resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

“My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months,” she revealed. “On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.”

As the message continued, Middleton confirmed that she would try her best to reprise some of her royal duties.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet,” read the caption. “I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.”

“Thank you so much for your continued understanding and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.”
