A month after it was first rumoured that their surprise romance was over, Irina Shayk and Kanye West have called it quits—for real.

Over the weekend, Us Weekly, People, and Entertainment Tonight each released their own articles confirming the split, with the outlets speaking to multiple sources who revealed the reasoning behind the rapper and model ending things and how causal the whole situation actually was in the first place.

Prior to the breakup, Entertainment Tonight was told by its own source that Shayk and West, who live on opposite sides of the country (West in L.A. and Shayk in New York) were always keeping things casual. “The two of them have always just been having fun together,” that source said. “They’re both doing their own thing and down to have a good time without any strings attached.”

Us Weekly’s contact explained the split was prompted by  Shayk and West realising “they aren’t great romantic partners,” but that they hadn’t gotten serious at all to begin with. “Kanye and Irina are over, but they never really started, there’s nothing going on there,” the source said.

One of People’s sources confirmed the above, saying, “It was never a serious thing that took off.” A second added that “Kanye has been busy working and spending time with his kids. This is his focus. He doesn’t have time to date right now. He finds Irina amazing though. They remain friendly.”

The reports come a month after similar rumours about a split made headlines. At the time, a source told People that Shayk was unhappy about the breakup rumours. “Irina is so upset at the lies about her and Kanye,” the source said at the time. “They are very much still dating.”

Shayk and West were first photographed together in early June celebrating the rapper’s 44th birthday in France.  A source previously told People West had begun pursuing Shayk a few weeks earlier and they had hung out in New York City before then.

“He invited her to France and she happily accepted,” the source said. “They are not officially dating, but there is interest from both sides.”

Later that month, a separate source revealed the pair’s plans to date long-distance, saying, “Kanye will continue to be L.A.-based. He has no plans to move to NYC. He is very focused on business in L.A. too. He likes spending time with Irina and plans to see her soon again.”

West’s short-lived romance with Shayk is his first since his ex Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from him in February. After initially having no contact, the pair have seemingly rekindled their friendship and are co-parenting harmoniously. In fact, they’re even coordinating their outfits.

Kardashian, who was spotted having lunch with West in Malibu on Friday, has been supporting his new album launch, attending concerts with the pair’s children and even playing the record in her car in a social media post captured over the weekend. She reportedly knew about his romance with Shayk before the rest of us, and apparently didn’t care.

“It doesn’t bother Kim that Kanye is dating. Her only concern is their kids,” a source previously told People. “She wants Kanye to be present and spend as much time with them as possible. The kids love when Kanye is around. Kim doesn’t want a new girlfriend to distract Kanye from spending time with the kids.”
